How can I join the mesh network?

  1. Get a LoRa radio.
    The official Meshtastic and MeshCore pages keeps a current list of supported hardware. You can buy a LoRa board for as low as $35, or buy a pre-built, battery-powered radio in a 3D-printed case on Amazon, Etsy, and eBay for between $50 and $100. If you can afford it and have a place to mount it outside, we recommend you buy a pre-built solar-powered node and mount it as high off the ground as you can.
  2. Download the Meshtastic or MeshCore app on your iPhone or Android device.
  3. Pair your radio to your phone with Bluetooth.
  4. Set up your radio with the proper settings.
    - For Meshtastic: We use the default LongFast channel, number 0, with no encryption as our main channel. This means inputting "AQ==" in the PSK box for no encryption.
    - For MeshCore: We use the default USA/Canada settings and Public channel.
  5. (Meshtastic) Connect to the public MQTT server:
    • Server: mqtt.meshtastic.org
    • User: meshdev
    • Pass: large4cats
    • Topic: msh/US/CO
  6. Say "hi" on the main channel! As your node gets heard, and you begin to hear others, you should start to see more neighbors pop up in your app.
